London, UK: There are positive signs for the audiovisual licensing industry as the results of the second annual Orchard Clips Archive Survey are announced.
Nearly 80% of respondents reported a positive outlook for the industry, following a major downturn in television production over recent years. Over 40% also reported that they are more busy than they were twelve months ago.
“After a tough period for the industry, it’s good to recognise the green shoots of recovery for the international footage and archive research industry.”
Luke Smedley, Head of Orchard Clips
Elsewhere in the survey, footage from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is highly sought after, with nearly 50% of respondents reporting searching for footage from the region on a weekly basis. But there are still challenges to finding such footage, with poor metadata, quality, and choice the most commonly reported issues when searching for MENA-related footage.
“The desire for quality footage from the MENA region is not surprising. There is currently strong growth in the region as producers and consumers of quality content. There is also increasing international interest in the region and to tell the stories of fascinating places.”
